Welcome to this week’s Superversive Sunday Spotlight. Every week we will chat with a Superversive author that you really should be reading.
This week we welcome Superversive author, William Lehman:
How long have you been writing?
My first book was published in 2014, so about seven years.
Which writers inspire you?
Oh, the list is long and not very distinguished. RAH of course, Webber, Ringo, Drake, Pournelle, Hoyt, and many more. I’m one of those pathological readers who will read almost anything, and all of it becomes grist for the mill.
So, what have you written?
I have a series of Urban Fantasy novels out, The John Fisher Chronicles. And a couple short stories, one in the Fisher universe that’s in print in Secret Stairs a Tribute to Urban Legend, and a deep background for the Space opera that I’m working on, in the Planetary Anthology Series “Luna”. I also do a weekly blog published on Thursdays by Thehashtag.us on current events, geek culture, and the US Navy.
What draws you to Superversive writing?
I really object to“message fiction” where the story is subservient to beating the reader to death with your message. Mind you, I don’t mind your having a message, most writing does… Hell, Heinlein’s work almost always had a message. I don’t even need to agree with your message (for example I don’t always agree with Elisabeth Moon’s stuff, but she writes an engaging yarn, so I don’t need to agree with her to enjoy her work.)
BUT the book should be more than just PREACHING your message… that’s what op-eds are for. I do them, but I don’t try to sell them as fiction, I’m quite up-front that this is an opinion piece.
What are you working on at the minute?
Scoutship Trigger. It’s a space opera that takes place about two hundred years from now. This will be book one of a series that follows a junior officer through Humanities first major interstellar war. Scoutships are small, and the fastest ships in the fleet, they serve in the same role that Submarines served in WWII.
Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?
How can readers discover more about you and your work?
I have an author presence and bio on Amazon, do weekly blog posts on Hashtagmedia, and can be found on FB. A warning, my facebook presence under my name is political and unfiltered. If you just want to follow my fiction work, please go to the “author william lehman” page.
Thanks for sharing William. Be sure to check out William’s books and be sure to check back next Sunday for our next chat with a Superversive author.
