Silver Empire released a new anthology, Secret Stairs: A Tribute To Urban Legend, and it contains thirty-four amazing stories around this urban legend:
You mustn’t talk about the stairs.
There they stand, surrounded by nothing but forest, pristine as the day they were built. No sign remains of any other structure around them, no ruins of long forgotten buildings. They look… wrong. They feel wrong. Bad things happen if you get too close. Horrible things.
You must never, ever ever talk about them.
Thirty-four of today’s best up and coming writers provide wonderfully unique interpretations inspired by the urban legends of the Internet age. Tales range from science fiction to fantasy, horror to mystery, and one writer even penned a romance!
But you must never tell anyone about the stairs!

My story, Nothing Ever Happens Here, was chosen to be the first story in the anthology and let me tell you that I was feeling a lot of pressure batting leadoff. My story would be the first potential buyers would read and base their purchasing decision on. I would have to hook them enough to make them want to keep on reading the other 33 incredible stories in this volume.
So, how did I do? Well, first you need to go read it for yourself. But here’s a couple of the early reviews – 42 already posted on Amazon as I write this – that mention my story:
“…the story chosen to be the first one was perfect to get the reader into the nature of the book.”
“Some standouts for me were, ‘Nothing Ever Happens Here‘, in part because I used to be a TV reporter, but also because the author, Richard Paolinelli, did a wonderful job of combining realistic characters and an unreal story with an unexpected twist at the end. “
So it looks like I did okay in the leadoff spot just like the book itself is off to a great start, as you can see in the image above. Go get your copy now, it will be available for just $0.99 for the next few days only before jumping up to its regular price, and judge for yourself.
Trust me, you won’t regret it. Just one thing, make sure you read this with the lights on and nowhere near any free-standing stairs.
